The Venice Biennale or La Biennale di Venezia, is an international art festival that has been held since 1895. It brings together the works of international artists from more than 100 countries, alternating every other year between art (Art Biennale) and architecture exhibitions (Architecture Biennale). This year marks the 60th anniversary of the International Art Festival. The theme of the event is Foreigners Everywhere and will be held in three main venues: Gardini, Arsenal’s and Forte Marghera. Art connoisseurs and enthusiasts must not miss this event.

700th Anniversary of Marco Polo’s Death

The commemorative event marks the death of Venetian merchant and explorer Marco Polo, who lived from 1797-1867. He wrote Le II Milione, or the travel journal of Marco Polo, which tells the story of his travels to the Far East along the Silk Road to China. Marco Polo’s voyages inspired many generations of travelers – a notable explorer inspired by said book is Christopher Columbus, a traveler from Genoa who intended to travel to Japan but instead arrived in America.
