If you are in Germany during winter, try sipping Glühwein, a sweet wine served warm. By boiling red wine and adding fragrant aromatics with spices such as cinnamon, cloves, vanilla stem, sugar, lemon and perhaps a touch of ginger for that extra tangy peppery taste – warm Glühwein will help relieve the cold factor as well. Glühwein is popular during Christmas and New Year holidays. It’s regarded as a traditional drink at Christmas markets held all over Germany. If it is past Christmas festivities, then you can find this beverage at bars and cafes in Munich or other cities. Just look for ‘Gourmet Glühwein’ near the outskirts of the Old Town or Wittelsbacherplatz.

In Germany there is a winter mulled wine menu called Glühwein. Well, in Sweden there is a similar menu called Glögg, made from boiled red wine mixed with spices such as cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, sugar and orange zest. Some people choose to add another shot of Aquavit to add warmth or add almonds and raisins for enhanced flavor. Tourists can find this drink in many local restaurants, especially during winter around the vicinity of Kungsgatan and the Vasterlanggatan shopping area.

When it comes to the land of cheese such as Switzerland, please do not miss out on trying the original cheese fondue menu. Although it is easy to find throughout the year and is widely available – the best tasting cheese fondue is during wintertime because it has been fermented all year long and tastes even more delicious. In Switzerland, it is easy to find cheese fondue shops but if you couple that with beautiful mountain views along with good aged cheese then you have arrived. Zermatt is a great location for restaurants such as Du Pont and Whymper-Stube

Bungeo-ppang is a fish-shaped pastry stuffed with sweetened red bean paste which originated from the Japanese Taiyaki dessert. South Koreans adapted to make it more palatable to their taste and since has become a ubiquitous street food that is easy to buy and taste during the winter. In addition to warming your stomach, your hands will be warm as you lift up the snack and enjoy every bite. Locations with Bungeo-ppang stalls include Kondae Taste Street, Konkuk university district and Myeongdong.
