‘Tis the season to celebrate through festive feasts. And while European fare is often put in the spotlight at this time of the year, there are plenty of local flavors that can contribute to making the occasion jolly as well. This is why we have rounded up six Thai fine-dining restaurants serving up festive tasting menus this holiday season.

1. Baan Tepa

With a philosophy that aims to present environmentally-conscious and locally-inspired culinary creations, Baan Tepa explores a creative yet grounded approach to Thai cuisine. Expect historic recipes that have been reimagined from this sophisticated establishment, which just freshly received their first Michelin star this year. Seasonal ingredients are picked from local farmers, fishermen and even the restaurant’s very own organic garden. Refined culinary techniques are used to craft narratives for Thailand’s rich resources and flavors.

Nestled in the heart of busy Ramkhamhaeng road, the restaurant is set in a spacious and beautifully renovated compound once owned by chef-owner Chudaree ‘Tam’ Dehbhakam’s grandmother.

Baan Tepa’s festive tasting menus are served from December 21 – 30, 2022.

The eight-course dinner (main dining hall) is priced at THB 5,500++ per person, while the private room is also available for a minimum of eight guests at THB 6,500++ per person.

2. Chim by Siam Wisdom

Chim by Siam Wisdom revisits traditional Thai recipes with finesse. Local dishes that are now hard to find can be spotted on the special Christmas and New Year’s Eve tasting menus. Some of these include steamed Bangtabun crab dumplings; a spicy salad of burnt tomatoes with smoked pork collar; and Rattanakosin-style fish tom yum. Enjoy flavorful main courses, namely river prawn with caramel peanut sauce and bumbai curry with beef cheek, served with locally-grown jasmine rice cooked in jasmine-infused water.

Set in a vintage wooden house surrounded by a lush garden, this one-Michelin-starred restaurant is a superb place to host foreigners looking to have a relaxed and tasty introduction to Thailand.

Chim by Siam Wisdom’s festive menu is priced at THB 2,950++ per person.

3. Eighty Twenty (80/20)

One-Michelin-starred Eighty Twenty (80/20) serves an imaginative interpretation of Thai cuisine and local ingredients. In a dynamic, loft-style setting surrounded by the charm of Charoenkrung district, watch Canadian chef Andrew Martin and his team passionately prepare each dish in the restaurant’s open kitchen.

Still focusing on bold flavors and creativity, the festive menu will follow its usual dining sequence (from snacks and appetizers to a main course feast and desserts) but with celebration-worthy items such as truffle, scallops, caviar, and sea urchin — all to be presented in a fun yet distinctively-Thai manner.

Eighty Twenty’s festive tasting menu is served from December 7, 2022, to January 8, 2023. It is priced at THB 4,500++ per person with wine pairing available at THB 3,000++ per person.

4. Paste

If you’re looking for a city-center dining destination, one-Michelin-starred Paste is conveniently tucked away inside Gaysorn shopping mall. Taking inspiration from royal Thai cuisine and their extensive travels across the country, chef-owners Bongkoch ‘Bee’ Satongun and Jason Bailey serve an elegant fusion of age-old customs and modern twists that are further elevated by an excellent front-of-house team.

The eight-course Christmas and New Year’s Eve tasting menu will highlight the following: King crab tartlet with lemongrass, mango, and calamansi citrus; mackerel salad tidbits; poached oysters and banana flower salad with Southern Thai relish; as well as rock lobster with salted duck egg, freshly squeezed coconut milk, and hairy eggplants.

Paste’s Christmas tasting menu is served on December 24, 2022, for lunch and December 25 for dinner, and is also available on December 31, 2022, for dinner and January 1, 2023, for lunch. It is priced at THB 4,900++ per person with wine pairing available at THB 2,900++ per person.

6. TAAN

Celebrate sky-high with a 180-degree view of Bangkok at TAAN, where chef Monthep Kamolsilp and his kitchen team craft modern interpretations of Thai cuisine using seasonal local ingredients sourced from independent farmers they work closely with.

Titled, “Chalong,” which means celebrate in Thai, the restaurant’s 10-course festive tasting menu takes diners on a gastronomic journey through dishes mostly indulged during special occasions. Enjoy flavorsome highlights such as Surat Thani oyster topped with cucumber, white strawberry, and shallot chips; fried liver with crispy garlic, pickled matsutake mushroom, and rice toast, as well as stir-fried scallops with curry.

TAAN’s festive tasting menu is available from December 23 – 31, 2022.
