A world-class art event has landed in one of Bangkok’s most iconic public spaces. Here are five essential things to know about “KAWS:HOLIDAY” THAILAND.

1. KAWS:HOLIDAY Around the World

Thailand is the latest destination for KAWS:HOLIDAY, following a global tour of striking large-scale exhibitions. Previous stops have included Switzerland’s Le Brassus, Indonesia’s Prambanan Temple, Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour during Art Basel, Marina Bay in Singapore, and even the base of Mount Fuji in Japan.

2. The Famous COMPANION

The COMPANION figure, first introduced as a toy in 1999, has become a global icon. In this new installation, KAWS presents an 18-meter-tall COMPANION sitting on Earth, gently holding the Moon, with a smaller COMPANION resting in its lap. The piece symbolizes the passing of knowledge, care, and values across generations—an emotional link between the past, present, and future.

3. An Iconic Location

In partnership with long-time collaborator AllRightsReserved and local partner Central Embassy, the installation takes over Sanam Luang, Bangkok’s historic ceremonial ground. Set against the majestic backdrop of the Grand Palace, it bridges Thailand’s regal heritage with contemporary art and global creativity.

4. The Art of Interpretation

Brian Donnelly, the American artist behind KAWS, began his career as a background painter for animated series before moving into street art and global exhibitions. For this installation, Sanam Luang’s spiritual and cultural significance—formerly known as Thung Phra Meru, the Royal Cremation Ground—adds a deeper meaning. The seated COMPANION cradling the Moon echoes the cosmic order, reflecting wisdom, continuity, and interconnectedness.

5. Essential Visitor Info

KAWS:HOLIDAY THAILAND is on display at Sanam Luang from now until 25 May 2025, daily from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with free admission. Please note that the exhibition may close temporarily during adverse weather conditions for safety. For updates, visit the official AllRightsReserved website.
