Lisbon, or Lisboa in Portuguese, is one of the oldest capital cities in the world blessed with warm weather and sunshine for 290 days of the year. Lisbon has a rich heritage steeped in history and an ancient culture dating back to the days of yore. A favorite city amongst travelers, Lisbon is regarded as a paradise for those who love to shop. An array of independent retail stores and international brand names are available.

1. Ceramics

Azulejo or colored glazed ceramic tiles represent Portuguese culture and can be seen everywhere from stores, buildings, churches and train stations. This type of tile has been a part of Portuguese architecture since the 13th century. Moreover, artwork such as handcrafted plates, bowls, coasters, or tiny earrings which incorporate so much detail – all deserve to be excellent souvenir choices. The National Azulejo Museum or the National Tile Museum of Lisbon provides an in-depth understanding of the history of Azulejo; travelers will experience Azulejo through interpretations of shapes and patterns. Wrap your day in this eclectic city by shopping for souvenirs at the museum.

2. Pastel de Nata

Portugal is famous for its desserts. The most famous pastry from Portugal is Pastel de Nata or egg tart. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and fragrant with a hint of cinnamon. This delicious dessert dates back to the 18th century and was created by the monks of Jeronimos monastery in the city of Lisbon. You can find egg tarts all over the city.

3. Canned sardines

Canned fish might seem like a strange souvenir but sardines are one of the most important symbols of Lisbon. Important highlights of the city of Lisbon are the Memorial of Saint Anthony of Padua, Priest and Doctor of the Church during June where Lisbonians celebrate by eating grilled sardines with neighbors on the streets. Like other sardine brands, Portugal produces its own canned sardines and is known for its meticulous attention to aesthetic and visually appealing packaging. Visit the O Mundo Fantástico da Sardinha Portuguesa shop whose name translates as the wonderful world of sardines of Portugal. There are many sardine brands with creative packaging designs to choose from.

4. Traditional skincare products

Skincare products may seem like a simple item with a hefty price tag. But we do not want you to miss out on Claus Porto which has been around since 1887, and Ach Brito. Both brands specialize in soaps, colognes, creams, and candles. The aforementioned brands are produced from natural Portuguese plants and the art nouveau-inspired packaging makes them most desirable. In addition, there is the Castelbel bar soap brand, whose packaging is inspired by the pattern of Azulejo tiles. It is so aesthetically beautiful that you do not want to unwrap and use it.
