Sweden
Sleep in the ice room at the Ice Hotel, Jukkasjärvi
One of the most unique hotels in the world is the Ice Hotel, founded in 1989 in the village of Jukkasjärvi, situated in northern Sweden. Every winter, this ice hotel is created from blocks of natural ice before being released to melt back into the Torne river in Spring. Every year the Ice Hotel takes on a new and unique design theme created by artists invited from around the world. Featured accommodations are art suites and standard rooms: these unique ice rooms are between -5 and -8 degrees Celsius.
Inside the rooms are beds and furniture carved from ice. But do not worry about the room being too cold. Guests will be comfortably warm with insulated sleeping bags on top of reindeer skin covered beds. Although the Ice rooms are only available from December to early April, visitors can come visit the Ice Hotel all year round. Regular rooms will be available for guests. Along with the famous ice bar exhibition are intricate and breathtaking ice sculptures. In the summer, guests can enjoy activities such as rafting, hiking, and fishing, as well as experience the Midnight Sun. While in winter, guests will be able to ride dog sleds and reindeer sleds. Or if you are lucky, you will be able to see the Northern lights from the hotel.
