As Fall enters Europe in September, Australia is about to enjoy its Spring season. Yes, this is when wildflowers bloom at Kings Park! Perth, the capital of Western Australia, is home to the largest wildflower viewing season in the world. Over 12,000 species of wildflowers bloom across this diverse landscape. You can take a relaxing walk and admire colorful wildflowers on nature trails [wildflower trails] or in city gardens without getting bored. Wildflower viewing season starts from September to November every year amidst a cool climate of around 13-18 degrees Celsius.

Three popular wildflower viewing routes

1. Kings Park and Botanic Garden

Kings Park Festival is one of Perth’s most popular and beautiful wildflower events. Held every year in mid-September at Kings Park and Botanic Garden, the festival features more than 3,000 species of wildflowers. You can admire the beauty of the large variety of wildflowers on nature trails, such as The Law Walk [a hiking trail along the river with a 2.5-kilometer cliff range], the Botanic Garden Discovery Walk [a 20-40 minute walk through the Botanic Garden]; and the herd-filled Bushland Nature Trail filled with lots of famous local birds, plus free tour guide services every day.

2. Reabold Hill Summit

A popular flower viewing trail by the beach with a unique charm is the Reabold Hill. It is located in Bold Park and is the highest natural viewpoint on the banks of the Swan River. A wooden bridge stretches from the seaside into the lush forests of Perth. It is perhaps one of the best places to study ecosystem and admire the stunning beauty of Australia’s famous wildflowers.

Admire the beauty of a field of the Blue Rottnest Island Daisy, the only flower in the world that blooms on Rottnest Island between October and November every year. Walk along the 45-kilometer nature trail lined with an abundance of plants and over 1,500 types of wildflowers; experience the culture and way of life of the indigenous Whadjuk Noongar people who live on the island as well.

Three things to know before going to see wildflowers in Perth

  • Strictly follow the rules for visiting wildflowers. Do not leave garbage and leftovers because they pollute environment and can harm local animals.
  • You should not walk off the route which officials have designated for safety. Do not collect or keep wildflowers as souvenirs, because preservation of the natural habitat is top priority.
  • People who are allergic to flower pollen should consult doctors and bring their own personal medication.
