A decade of creativity at Armani/Silos
To celebrate four decades of creativity, leading fashion brand Giorgio Armani has launched Armani/Silos, a permanent exhibition space in the heart of Milan featuring the work of legendary fashion designer Giorgio Armani. It first opened on April 30, 2015. The building was converted from an old granary built in 1950 with an area of over 4,500 square meters, collecting works from 1980 until the present time. It showcases over 600 pieces of fashion clothing and over 200 accessories. Inside the facility, a revolving festival extravaganza features an arsenal of digital data, bookshops, and chic cafés.
Architecturally, the four-story building is designed in a simple geometric shape. Cutting back on extravagant decorations, there is an original honeycomb-shaped warehouse which is preserved to create a dimensional open space. The name Silos was inspired by the building used to store food – Armani described food as essential to life.
