THE GREEN MILE

Bangkok, Thailand

Good news for Bangkok’s walkers and cyclists: the elevated 1.6-kilometer walkway connecting two of its big green spaces – Lumpini and Benjakitti parks – has been overhauled. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration rebuilt the Green Bridge using universal design principles: there are now gentle ramps instead of stairs, as well as granite paving, slip-resistant cycle surfaces, and new lifts at the Sarasin Road entrance. It was delayed, but park lovers finally have a path that safely accommodates everyone.

OLYMPIC ENCORE

Olympic venues often go quiet once the Games end. Paris had other plans. Central Chapelle has opened inside the 2024 Games’ Adidas Arena, filling 3,500 square meters of the 18th arrondissement with street-food counters, a concert hall, a club, two terraces, and a café.

NAOSHIMA RESHUFFLE

Naoshima, Japan

Unlike most museums, Naoshima New Museum of Art (Tues-Sun: 10:00-16:30) refreshes its exhibitions to match the summer and winter seasons, giving visitors an excuse to make repeat visits. Entitled Flow, Recurrence, Rebirth, its summer rotation features an outdoor installation by the Thai artist Sanitas Pradittasnee, an exhibition by the versatile visual artist Okazaki Kenjiro, and 1950s nature photography by Midorikawa Yoichi. Looking forward to the winter season, Kei Imazu and Bagus Pandega – two artists based in Bandung, the capital of West Java – will add some of their experimental installations to this striking island museum designed by starchitect Tadao Ando.
