Thai craftsmanship is undergoing a vivid metamorphosis, transcending its ceremonial origins to enrich the complexion of modern life. With a contemporary touch in design, it is not only how the new generation reflects its perspectives in the modern world but also a showcase of how legacy will live on.
Jittrakam Thai Nai Yam
The yam – an alms bag traditionally used by Buddhist monks – finds new expression through the work of Jakkit Bualeg, founder of Jittrakam Thai Nai Yam. Drawing on personal experience, collected narratives, and deeply held beliefs, Jakkit reinterprets this humble object for a wider, contemporary audience.

Each silk alms bag is adorned with intricate embroidery depicting stories rooted in Thai literature and ancient cosmology: Garuda and Hanuman, episodes from the Ramayana, and auspicious creatures such as tigers and dragons. Selected collections undergo a ceremonial blessing and are inscribed with sacred symbols by a monk, imbuing each piece with spiritual significance as well as aesthetic distinction. The result is a functional object that also serves as a meaningful artifact.
