Brussels, a city celebrated for its exceptional art and architecture, stands as a beacon of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements that have shaped design worldwide. Each winter, this vibrant capital metamorphoses into an exhilarating showcase of global artistry through a series of captivating festivals. Here are three unmissable events that not only elevate cultural appreciation but also ignite inspiration.

BRAFA (Brussels Art Fair)

Since its inception in 1956, BRAFA has earned its place as one of the world’s most prestigious art fairs. After several venue changes, it now resides in the expansive and contemporary Tour & Taxis complex. Every January, this illustrious fair draws over 130 international exhibitors, presenting a staggering array of over 10,000 artworks. From rare pieces and Art Nouveau jewelry to antique furniture, ancient sculptures, bronzes, ceramics, and contemporary masterpieces, BRAFA captivates art collectors, aspiring artists, and curious visitors alike, making it a must-visit destination in the art world.

BANAD (Brussels Art Nouveau & Art Deco Festival)

The Brussels Art Nouveau & Art Deco Festival, or BANAD, is a celebration of the city’s rich artistic heritage. This festival offers a rare opportunity to explore over 65 hidden Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and Modernist buildings — normally off-limits to the public — including residences, churches, schools, hospitals, and cinemas, all available via guided tours. Whether you choose to explore on foot, by bicycle, or by bus, you will also enjoy art exhibitions, live music, antique markets, and much more.
For architecture enthusiasts, this festival is an absolute treasure trove.
