Let’s explore five flea markets we love. We will take you to Kyoto, Paris, Istanbul, Melbourne and Milan.


1. To-ji Temple Market

Kyoto, Japan


“To-ji Temple” of Kyoto is recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Every 21st of each month marks the day when the temple courtyard is transformed into the “Mieku” flea market, also known as Kobo-san market with cloths, accessories, used Kimonos, local products, toys, flora & fauna, food and other items for sale at affordable prices. There are over 1,200 vendors. Crowds start packing the market in the afternoon, so come to To-ji Temple before 10 a.m.

Opening Hours: Every 21st of the month 09.00-16.00
Access: A 10-minute walk from Kyoto station or a 5-minute walk from To-ji station (Kintetsu Kyoto Line)

Tips: This flea market is one of the rare markets in Japan where bargaining and prices can be negotiated.

2. Marché aux Puces de la Porte de Vanves

Paris, France


Experience life like a true Parisian at the most famous antique market located in District 14 of Paris. Walk the streets lined with shops on both sides and you will be transported back in time – experience Paris and understand the exclusive tastes and lifestyles of an era long gone. There are shops selling second-hand clothing and accessories, antique silverware, old posters, books, rare vinyl records, as well as Hermes scarves or even Christian Dior skirts.

3. St Kilda Esplanade Market

Melbourne, Australia


Enjoy artworks of more than 120 artists and artisans at the outdoor market along Melbourne Harbor. You can buy gifts and shop for souvenirs, which include furniture items and unique accessories. As for beauty products, there are vegan-friendly and environmentally-friendly products at the SunWell Being shop; or sip herbal tea at the Australian Tea House which serves chamomile and peppermint tea as their specialty.

4. Feriköy Flea Market or Feriköy Antika Pazari

Istanbul, Türkiye


Feriköy Flea Market, also known as Bomonti Market, is home to more than 450 stores and shops. Everything from record players, books, carpets, clothing, dolls, toys, ceramics, glassware, metalwork from the 18th century and rare WW1 medals. Be prepared to spend anywhere from USD 5 – 10,000. The market will be packed after 1 p.m., so it is recommended that you arrive before noon.

Opening Hours: Every Sunday 09.00-18.00 (except on religious holidays)
Access: Take M2 subway to Osmanbey Station and exit Rumeli, or take the #252 / 30A / 38KT / 66 / 70FE and DT1 bus

5. East Market Milano

Milan, Italy


Almost 300 shops sell their wares at an old airplane factory renovated with an industrial theme on Via Mecenate street. You can buy brand-name dresses, old and chic Levi’s 501 jeans, sneakers, sunglasses, jukebox, Gameboy, professional cameras, furniture, lamps, bags and accessories at affordable prices. Experience the “Everything Old is New Again” spirit at East Market Milano.
